Dead Man's Spex

Lovers, I gots me some new specs. I have been after a pair of 50s cat eye frames for a long time as the high street just wasn't quite doing it for me and I just don't have a designer budget. Thankfully, my Mother is wonderful and has delivered me with a cracking early birthday present. These 50s frames are from Dead Men's Spex. The chap there, Darren I think, even fits prescription lenses to most frames, which is incredible, especially since they are really quite affordable.

I couldn't wait to show you these glasses, so I didn't make as much effort on the hair and make-up as I would usually. These glasses definitely need a bold lip colour (surely Gay Geranium by No7?) and hair up on top of head, but not so messily as this badly done suicide roll.

The dress is from Miss Selfridge, belt is vintage brown leather and the sparkly shoes are - quite honestly - what I found by the front door - but they are from ASOS.

Much specky four eyes love to you all.

Oh, hello overdraft!

So...I bought quite a few things the other day. I am terrible at buying separates, I don't wear trousers and I don't spend money on tops, I never think I'll wear them. But this trip saw me buying three new skirts and spending a hell of a lot of time searching for a top to go with them in Meadow-hell. I then figured I'd go for a plain grey T and a statement necklace, which I never found. The search goes on!

However, skirt! I was on the way to have dinner with my Mumma. It's a gorgeous metallic navy blue pleated maxi from M&S for a nifty £19.
The bag is a swirly golden perspex evening bag from ASOS.

Oh and sorry for the photos. I needs me a decent camera.

The shop is still up and running with new stock!

New Stock In Today

The shop is getting off to a lovely start with (fingers crossed) some happy customers in the first few days. It's very very nearly the weekend so I decided to put up a bulk of vintage for your eyes and clicking fingers as you get in from work/uni and sit down with a brew.
(Lucky bunch, I'm off to work again in a bit  *shakes fist*)

This dress has this seasons peplum! You know how I love peplums. However, it is missing the keyhole button at the back of the neck so it's a cheeky £15.

Lydia loves this blouse. I can see why, she looks like a babe. An elegant Victorian babe.

This is a reworked 8ps frock with a unique scarf detail.

Lydia is bringing out her inner gangster in this over sized scarf print shirt.

I adore this Monsoon Twilight smoking jacket.

Sparkle bolero jacket will liven up your LBD.

And here I am with my owl and a great polka dot pencil skirt I was very tempted to keep!

See you on the flip side.

Pretty Used Things on ASOS

Hello guys! I am very excited to announce the official launch of Pretty Used Things vintage boutique on ASOS Marketplace.

https://marketplace.asos.com/boutique/pretty-used-things

Peplum Print

Well hello world.

I'm feeling perky and chipper today as I'm starting work on my ASOS Boutique! Hurrah! It will be live TONIGHT. So freaking excited.

Here is an outfit for your eyes. I'm so in love with this printed peplum top from Matalan of all places. It looks great with these skinny black jeans and also with a bright turquoise pencil skirt I also bought that day. A waist cincher and so versatile. Boom.

The sunglasses are from LeLove vintage from Etsy. They are shipped from the US but with postage they were still under a tenner. I've been after for a true pair of cat eyes for so long! So I'm very happy with these deadstock vintage sunnies.

The bag is from New Look in the sale, I'm not one for the metallic trend in full, but an accessory suits me fine.

Necklace - Topshop
Shoes - New Look

After having bought this Peplum top I'm very keen on getting my hands on the pink satin H&M peplum top that is everywhere in magazines currently, very similar to this one that Dianna Aagron is sporting:

Now you've got me thinking Peplum! Check out this gorgeous shift dress from old favourite River Island...

Happy waist cinching!

Suit Up Baby

Sorry this is so short but I'm hoping it's sweet. I really, really want a suit. I've said it before, but printed suits are just incredible.

Check out this Celine suit. I love the tapered trousers.

I'm not so fond of this blazer shape but the Peter Som colours are gorgeous...

ASOS have a really varied range of suits at the moment, but my favourites are below...

Not a trouser girl? Pencil skirt option agogo.

I absolutely adore this skirt suit. It'd adorable. And it's my birthday next month...FYI.

Bye for now!

Jitterbug of 2012

Hello lovers,

I finally found the photos from Itchy Feet at The Leadmill ages ago! Not only are they online, they've chosen one of myself and another of a very pretty lady saying "Who wore it best?" underneath. Nuff flattered!

8 days and counting...

On March 12th Pretty Used Things will be launching on ASOS as a Vintage Boutique. I am so incredibly excited and nervous all wrapped into one. The logo above has been designed by my good friend Becky Roberts. What a gem. Below is my statement for what Pretty Used Things is all about...

Pretty Used Things offers you exactly that, Pretty Used Things! We have lovingly handpicked every item with both individuality and wear-ability in mind. Vintage clothing should come with no pretensions and make fun, kooky additions to your wardrobe (without the huge mark-ups). We don’t take ourselves too seriously, but there's more to vintage than bunting and teacups! We are passionate about making vintage wearable for all shapes and sizes whether the styles are “on trend“ or not. Vintage is for everyone.”

I'm opening this shop from the point of view of a customer and my experience of buying vintage in recent years. If you feel you have anything to contribute from your experience, please get in touch - I want this to be the best it can be! See below for a sneaky preview of some of the items I will be selling, modeled by the gorgeous Bernadette.

Gigs and Getups

Hello!
It's been a while, my bad. But I have been busying myself, mucho promiso. There are exciting things afoot with my shop Pretty Used Things, so please keep an eye out on the internet for that shizzle.

Last night my band Screaming Maldini supported our fellow label mates and cool cats Johnny Foreigner and Tip Your Bartender at The Harley here in Sheffield. It was absolute U16s moshpit chaos by the time JF graced the stage, which was awesome to watch!

I had about 10 minutes to get ready, and I chose to don this dress which I haven't worn in years. It was £10 from a jumble vintage shop here in Sheffield, and with a nod to the pastel trend, I thought I was doing OK.

Belt: Peacocks
Bag: Vintage
Shoes: ASOS

Victory Rolls rushed to imperfection.

Have a looky at some gig snaps...they're awful! But what a handsome crowd!

The morning after the night before I HAD to wear my new Johnny Foreigner t-shirt. What a cool teacher I am. The kids will love it. I love that I can dabble with a 40s/50s look one night then throw on a shorts and t-shirt the next day. As much as I admire Vintage purists like Fleur de Guerre and Judi Yesterday and the Bright Young Twins (see my blog reel) I can't help but dress it down sometimes and feel better off for it.

Shoes: ASOS

Bag: Vintage

Morning enthusiasm on 6 hours sleep.  Nutter.
